| Education Liberty Elementary School Liberty Elementary School (LES) has an enrollment of 515 students in kindergarten through 5th grade. The school's mission statement is; "All students can learn. To develop the potential of all children it is necessary to have a safe, positive, challenging, well structured and inner-active environment. The student, family, school and community share the responsibility for learning. There are four classes at each grade level, and all-day kindergarten has been provided at LES for 12 years. Special area classes include physical education, art and music. Title 1 and remediation programs offer additional assistance to students who need extra help. Title 1 services include before and after school tutoring for eligible students. High ability math groups and differentiated instruction are used to meet learning needs for more capable students. Liberty Elementary School strongly emphasizes a solid understanding of basic reading, writing and math skills. The applications of these basic skills to real life situations is also stressed by the curriculum. The school became part of the Indiana CLASS program in 2002. College Corner Union School College Corner Union School (CCUS), uniquely situated on the Indiana-Ohio state line, serves 244 students from four counties: Union and Franklin Counties in Indiana and Butler and Preble Counties in Ohio. The K-5 instructional staff includes 17 full-time teachers, 1 part-time teacher and 5 paraprofessionals. There is also one full time teacher and one paraprofessional for the pre school class. Union County Middle School Union County Middle School is a public school with an enrollment of approximately 438 students in grades six, seven and eight. The staff consists of 21 full-time certified teachers and 4 shared teachers. the staff also has 16 full-time support members. The administrative team consists of a building principal and assistant principal. There is a full-time licened social worker that is available as needed. Union County Middle School is a member of East Central Indiana Special Services Cooperative, which provides a full-time learning disabilities teacher a shared teacher in a classroom for the mildly or moderately mentally handicapped. Union County Middle School operates on an alternate block schedule with each block lasting ninety minutes. Student schedules include math, language arts, reading, science and social studies. semester offerings are industrial technology, family and consumer science, health and physical education. Exploratory opportunities include band, choir, keyboarding and art. The middle school has a very active instructional remediation program that assists students in developing proficient essential skills. Three full-time remediation aides are supervised by classroom teachers in the implementation of appropriate programming. Union County Middle School also offers differentiated instructional opportunities to approximately 18% of the students who are identified as gifted/talented. Co-curricular offerings include a daily advisor-advisee program called "Tale Twenty." Extracurricular programs include football, cross-country, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, track, golf, academic competition, drama and cheerleading. Union County High School Union County High (UCHS) is home to approximately 450 students and 29 teachers. The community is proud of its student body and school. 85% of Union County High School students are involved in extra-curricular activities. SAT scores have consistently averaged higher than both state and national average scores. Union County High School students are actively involved in interscholastic academic competition. 63% of all Union County students will attend a two-or four- year college. Another 10% will attend a vocational or technical school. Yet another 5% will choose to enter the military. Over the past six years the graduation rate has risen consistently from 89% to 95%. Students participate in over 30 different clubs and organizations. The school has a highly professional staff of faculty members and administrators. 48% of the educators at UCHS has a master's degree in their respective fields. Teachers average 12.9 years of experience, while administrators average 18 years of experience in schools. The majority of staff members have been involved in staff development within the past year.
